A tale of good Samaritans

Yesterday, I got a huge load of mulch delivered by RockyTop Resources to my backyard fence. I was working to shovel it into my yard when a kind neighbor from across the road saw me and came over with 3 of his young nephews to help out.

I was so grateful because I had definitely underestimated how long it would take me to do by myself. I had shoveled for over an hour, and the pile was still over my head. The 4 of them moved that remaining mountain of mulch in a little over an hour.

(This photo was taken after they were more than halfway done.)

I sent them home with my gratitude... and some Dominos pizzas and cold drinks.

New Home, Large Lot!

After almost 10 years living in a 500 sq. ft. home, I've moved and now have more room than I know what to do with.

My new lot has 3 large yards: front, side and back. I'm going to be in gardening heaven. The back yard even has mature crab apple trees!

The side yard has the carport at one end and storage sheds at the other.

Living in the High Desert

I moved to Colorado Springs last month. I now own my little 1969 mobile home with a fantastic front porch.

At last I can garden again! I spent the first weeks cleaning out the existing beds and trimming back overgrown rose bushes. It has been so much fun.

The flowers by the steps are Soapwort, and every evening they attract funny, little creatures called Hummingbird Moths. They look like hummingbirds but are smaller and have antenneas (however you spell that!)

No one has tended the flower beds for a really long time, but wildflowers have moved in and are rather pretty.

(This is one flower bed before I did any work on it.)
